Backhands Optional?
... is obviously a bit provocative and tongue-in-cheek - but caught your attention? Maybe sparked curiosity?
If you like, have a think yourself... I'd say one motivator is that we get used to doing things a certain way and often get stuck with that - at least for a good while.
As a tennis player, coach, and fan, I obviously love backhands! But do you really need them, or can they be - in a good sense - optional? Why not hit forehands on both sides? Why not *decide* if you want to hit a forehand, or a backhand, on either side?
Zooming out, there's the broader question if we could better develop and use both sides of the body. Maybe to a point where we don't even think of a preference between left and right, but naturally choose what makes sense from a functional or maybe even strategic point of view.
In other words:
Is full-body ambidexterity a positive and possible next step in the evolution of sports, our day-to-day, and for humans in general?
Can we maybe bring new dimensions and ideas to our lives?
Or does the pursuit - "at least" - bring along many side-benefits? ;)
